Is it me, or is it getting a little bit chilly? As September nights draw in and a heavy dew dampens the grass, I’m taking a little wander back to the warmer days of summer.
Heart and home
You think you know a place, then one day it takes your breath away. I’ve spent a lot of this spring and summer where I grew up in Somerset, called ‘land of the summer people’ by those wise Anglo-Saxons. You don’t have to look far to find the myth and the magic, especially in the summer months.
Bloom and grow
Full disclosure. Those are not my courgettes, or even my spring onions. Our lovely neighbours operated a pick-your-own policy when they were away. In return we looked after their chickens. Or at least we dodged the beak of a moody, broody beast called Matilda. Country life at its best.
Love and marriage
Wonderful weddings, stunning locations, and happy days with good friends times three. Ladies and gentlemen, a toast to the best days of summer.
Gather and feast
It’s been a fruitful year and our trees are now pretty well spent. Blackcurrants, plums, apples, pears, rhubarb and crab apples will be keeping us supplied with jam and preserves for the winter. Rhubarb curd was a first, but our boozy blackcurrant and plum jam is now a firm favourite.
